History by Gil Hoffman:

In 1900 Horace G. Butler, of Knoxville, MS, moved his sash, door and blind mill from Knoxville to Dayton, Amite County. His mill was located at Butler Spur on the west side of the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad, barely in Amite County. It had a cutting capacity of 20,000 feet per day.

On July 22, 1903, the mill, logging railroad and timber holdings were sold to D. H. Donaldson, of Peoria, Illinois. To operate the mill, the Foster Creek Lumber Company was incorporated at Dayton, Amite County, on August 24, 1903, by D. H. Donaldson, David Donaldson and Herman Hauser with authorized capital stock of $125,000.

The mill cut out in September 1908, and closed. The Foster Creek Lumber Company continued to exist as a timber buying company until 1916 when it was sold to the Foster Creek Lumber & Manufacturing Company.
