HISTORY:

MidSouth Rail Corporation was formed on March 31, 1986 to purchase two rail lines from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. The first was the former Alabama & Vicksburg and Vicksburg Shreveport & Pacific RR lines extending from Shreveport, LA through Vicksburg and Jackson to Meridian, MS.  The second line was the former Gulf & Ship Island RR line between Hattiesburg and Gulfport. MidSouth Rail later purchased the Gulf & Mississippi Railroad on April 14, 1988 and created a subsidiary company called SouthRail Corp. to own them. It also created another subsidiary company called MidLouisiana Rail Corporation to take over North Louisiana & Gulf Railroad on September 8, 1987. MidSouth purchased the Corinth & Counce Railroad on December 31, 1991 and formed TennRail Corp. to own that line.

MidSouth Rail and its subsidiary companies were purchased by Kansas City Southern Railway on January 11, 1994.
