HISTORY:

Mississippi Southern Railroad was formed by Watco Companies and started operation of the Kansas City Southern Ry (ex-GM&O) line between Newton, MS and Bay Springs, MS on April 4, 2005. The track is still owned by KCS and leased to Mississippi Southern RR. In July 2020 the Mississippi Southern expanded by leasing the KCS line north from Newton to Louisville and Ackerman, as well.

Note: There was also an earlier railroad called the Mississippi Southern RR that operated between Kiln and Lumberton, MS from 1922-1930.
