HISTORY by Tony Howe:

INDUSTRY -

1937 Witbeck photo of the south end of the Illinois Central depot. You can see the former A&V trackage at street level at left.

1979 view of IC Station.

1894 view of old Union Station which sat where later Illinois Central depot was later built.

1990

Another great shot of the old Union Station. Streetcar tracks up Capital Street cross the IC tracks at grade in foreground.

1990 view of IC station.

1990

Witbeck view of station area at Jackson showing IC freighthouse at right and a freight train from North Jackson yard swinging onto A&V connection in the distance in August 1940.

Bill Witbeck took many photos from the King Edward Hotel in Jackson over the years. This view from about 1940 looks north and shows the station area quite well.

Former GM&O depot at Jackson on June 10, 1990.

Former GM&O depot at Jackson was built in 1925. It served as offices for the Mississippi Dept of Archives & History by 1990.
