HISTORY by Tony Howe: 

This location was originally called Turner, and was named for Judge Edward Turner. His home later burned, and a new house was built by his son-in-law, M. C. Johnston, and was later purchased by S. S. Lee. The town was renamed Leesdale in his honor in 1918.
