The Vicksburg, Shreveport & Pacific Railroad was incorporated on December 1, 1879, and was the result of a reorganization of the North Louisiana & Texas Railroad. The VS&P operated as part of the Queen & Crescent System. The VS&P was leased in June 1926 to the Illinois Central subsidiary Yazoo & Mississippi Valley.
