HISTORY:

The Mississippi Central Railroad (the third railroad to have this name) was formed in 1993 by Pioneer Railcorp to acquire the railroad line from Grand Junction, TN to Oxford, MS that was previously operated by Kyle Railroad as the Natchez Trace Railway.

In September 2013, the Mississippi Central RR purchased the Redmont Railway operating between Corinth, MS and Red Bay, AL. It is now operated as the Redmont Division.

Note: There were two previous railroads called Mississippi Central Railroad in the state. The first Mississippi Central RR operated 1855-1874 between Canton, MS, Jackson, TN, and Cairo, IL. The second Mississippi Central RR, not related to the first, operated 1904-1967 from Hattiesburg to Natchez.
